Podcast with Nir Eyal

Nir Eyal being interviewed by Stolp's Julien Yee on being less distracted, why technology isn't the problem and how to get back your time and life.

In an age of ever-increasing demands of our attention, how do we get the best of technology without letting it get the best of us? The answer to that question is what keeps Nir Eyal busy. In this episode the best-selling author of the books ‘Indistractable’ and ‘Hooked’ discusses how to have full control of our attention, explains why blaming technology and the tools isn’t the solution, why it’s not bad to feel bad, the harms of a company culture of ‘always on’, and tactics to become Indistractable: to spend more time doing the things we love.

I got rid of all technology. I bought a word processor from the 1990s. I bought myself a flip phone with no apps on it. And I still got distracted. Because you know why? Distraction doesn’t start outside of us. It starts from within. It’s about this understanding of what sensation we are trying to escape. Boredom, loneliness, fatigue, uncertainty.
